The world of energy literacy lost a champion last week with the passing of Barry Worthington, a long time executive director of the United States Energy Association. NEF was deeply saddened to hear of his passing.

Barry’s commitment to NEF’s energy literacy mission was particularly evident given his long service on the NEF board of directors. He served more than 20 years, including two terms as chairman of the board.

He was generous with his counsel and always forthcoming with introductions to senior leaders in the energy arena. Some of the NEF team’s fondest memories of Barry revolve around his annual introduction of the winning K-12 students of a past NEF national competition at the National Energy Efficiency Forum at the National Press Club.

Barry Worthington helped the National Energy Foundation move more prominently onto the national stage, and his friendship, support, leadership, and goodness will be missed.

Sincerely,
Lisa Wood, Chair, NEF Board, VP Customer Solutions, EEI and Executive Director, Institute for Electric Innovation
and
Elissa Richards, President, NEF
