EAGLE, ID  (JUNE 7-8, 2018) – Idaho Mining Association (IMA) is sponsoring a two-day, professional development workshop at Eagle Middle School in Eagle, ID on June 7 and 8, 2018. The workshop develops an understanding of the role of mineral resources in everyday lives. Information and hands-on activities experienced through the workshop will support rock and mineral education in the classroom for years to come.

Teacher participants will make mineral toothpaste, test rock samples, learn about the rock cycle by writing rock obituaries and do an “Earth Dance” to learn the layers of the earth. On day two of the workshop, participants will pan for gold in a mountain stream and tour historic Idaho City to learn the importance of mining in Idaho’s economy and history.

Workshop activities are STEM-rich and correlate with Idaho Content Standards. Each participant will receive the National Energy Foundation’s Out of the Rock lessons, music CD, posters and rocks and minerals supplies to take back to the classroom.
